A photo point is designed for the camera, not the eye: framing, background and scale are set so a phone photo looks good and carries the brand. It also has to survive crowds leaning on it all day.
Commissioned work in photo-op installation normally runs from 6 to 31 m², with 7–15 working days in production from approved drawings. The reference range for this technique is CNY 800–2500 per m², quoted itemised. It sits within our Exhibition & Event Build capability, alongside 7 related techniques, and the 4-point deliverable below is what a commission includes as standard.
When photo-op installation is the right answer - and when it is not
Photo and check-in installations are chosen where a brand or venue wants visitors to photograph themselves and share the result. They suit exhibitions, retail, festivals, events and destinations. The whole design is determined by a phone camera at arm's length in available light, which is a far more specific brief than it first appears. The measure of success is not how the piece looks in a render but whether the photographs taken by strangers in a hurry are worth posting, so this is one of the few categories where the honest test is a picture taken on a phone at the site rather than a designed visual.
How the work is actually carried out
Design begins from the shot: where the visitor stands, how the phone is held, what is behind and beside them, and what the light does at the hours people visit. Text and composition are placed to survive that framing, with the focal element sized to read on a small screen, and the site is arranged so the visitor has room to step back. Materials are chosen for a piece people will touch, lean on and climb, and the installation is verified by actually taking the photograph before sign-off. The queue is designed as carefully as the piece, since a check-in that works one at a time and blocks a passage at peak becomes a complaint, and lighting is checked at the peak visiting hours rather than at a convenient moment.

Reference price bands for Photo-op installation
Indicative only, based on the scope normally quoted for photo-op installation. A firm price follows a site survey and an itemised quotation split into material, labour, finishing, packing and freight.
| Scope | Typical area | Reference total | Unit rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small area | 6–15 m² | CNY 4,800 – CNY 37,500 | approx. CNY 2500/m² |

| Large area | 36 m² and above | CNY 28,800+ | approx. CNY 800/m² |
Build tiers for photo-op installation
Photo-op installation is not one product at one size: the table below is the same scope ladder we quote on, so you can see where your project sits before asking for a price.
| Build tier | Typical area | Production days | What changes at this tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 6–30 m² | 5–12 | Up to 30 m², one substrate and one access setup, 5–12 days in the workshop. |
| Tier 2 | 6–30 m² | 5–12 | 6–30 m² across two or more faces, 5–12 days, substrate build-up agreed per location. |
| Tier 3 | 6–40 m² | 8–18 | 6–40 m² across two or more faces, 8–18 days, substrate build-up agreed per location. |
| Tier 4 | 6–30 m² | 10–20 | 6–30 m² across two or more faces, 10–20 days, substrate build-up agreed per location. |
| Tier 5 | 6–25 m² | 6–14 | 6 m² and above, multiple substrate types and phased access, 6–14 days with a join and numbering plan. |
What we deliver
- Three-dimensional design and floor-plan coordination with the organiser
- Pre-assembly and trial fit in the workshop before shipment
- Structures, graphics, lighting, AV mounting and furniture
- On-site build, opening-day standby and dismantling
Faults we see most often in photo-op installation
Each of these is a field failure rather than a workshop one, and each is cheaper to prevent at enquiry stage than to correct after installation.
- Designing an installation that photographs badly, which defeats the entire purpose of the piece.
- Ignoring the light at peak visiting hours, so the piece cannot be read in the shot for much of the day.
- Under-building a piece that will be leaned on and climbed, with the failures showing within weeks.
What to settle before an overseas project starts
| The intended shot | Describe or sketch the photograph. The design follows the camera position and the framing exactly. |
|---|---|
| Peak hours and light | Tell us when people come and what the light does then. The piece is judged in the photograph, not in a render. |
| Contact and safety | People will climb on it. Tell us the expectation so structure and surfaces are specified accordingly. |
