Car-park signage and markings work as one system: a driver follows a route, not a sign. We design the sequence, the line markings and the guidance signage together so the two never contradict each other.
Commissioned work in car-park signage & markings normally runs from 5 to 24 m², with 10–26 working days in production from approved drawings. The reference range for this technique is CNY 200–1200 per m², quoted itemised. It sits within our Signage & Wayfinding capability, alongside 9 related techniques, and the 4-point deliverable below is what a commission includes as standard.
When car-park signage & markings is the right answer - and when it is not
Car park signage is chosen to move vehicles efficiently and safely, which makes it a traffic engineering problem as much as a graphics one. It suits commercial, retail, residential and public parking facilities. Its success is measured in how few drivers end up circling, reversing into the wrong lane or abandoning a level that had spaces. It is worth separating this from general wayfinding: signage for pedestrians can be read slowly and revisited, while parking signage is read in about two seconds from a moving car, so the amount of information any single sign can carry is far smaller than most briefs assume.
How the work is actually carried out
The layout and the circulation are studied first, since signage cannot fix a confusing one-way system. Signage is then placed at driver decision points with letter heights set for the approach speed, and a hierarchy is established between entry direction signs, level and zone identification, and individual bay guidance. Colour coding is used consistently between levels and zones so drivers who entered on foot can find their car, and counting or guidance systems are integrated where the volumes justify them. Reflective and illuminated materials are selected against the actual lighting levels. The signs are then reviewed from a driver's seat at the real approach speed rather than from a standing position, because a sign that is perfectly legible in a drawing can be gone before it is read once the vehicle is moving.

Build tiers for car-park signage & markings
Car-park signage & markings is not one product at one size: the table below is the same scope ladder we quote on, so you can see where your project sits before asking for a price.
| Build tier | Typical area | Production days | What changes at this tier |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tier 1 | 0.1–1.1 m² | 10–25 | Up to 1.1 m², one substrate and one access setup, 10–25 days in the workshop. |
| Tier 2 | 6–30 m² | 12–30 | 6–30 m² across two or more faces, 12–30 days, substrate build-up agreed per location. |
| Tier 3 | 6–30 m² | 5–15 | 6–30 m² across two or more faces, 5–15 days, substrate build-up agreed per location. |
| Tier 4 | 6–30 m² | 15–35 | 6–30 m² across two or more faces, 15–35 days, substrate build-up agreed per location. |
| Tier 5 | 6–30 m² | 10–25 | 6 m² and above, multiple substrate types and phased access, 10–25 days with a join and numbering plan. |
What we deliver
- Wayfinding strategy, message schedule and sign-location drawings
- Illuminated letters, light boxes, totems and directory boards
- Code-compliant safety, evacuation and public-notice signage
- Electrical coordination, installation and maintenance access
Faults we see most often in car-park signage & markings
Each of these is a field failure rather than a workshop one, and each is cheaper to prevent at enquiry stage than to correct after installation.
- Trying to correct a confusing circulation layout with signage, which never works and always looks over-signed.
- Sizing letters for pedestrian reading in a space read at driving speed and distance.
- Inconsistent colour coding between vehicle signage and pedestrian lift lobbies, which is why people cannot find their car.
What to settle before an overseas project starts
| Circulation layout | Send the parking layout and the vehicle routes. Signage placement follows the circulation, not the available columns. |
|---|---|
| Approach speed and distances | Tell us the driving speeds and the distances at which drivers must decide. Letter heights follow from those. |
| Guidance systems | If space counting or bay guidance is planned, tell us so the signage and the system are designed together. |
